Happy Birthday Ma-in-Law!

This was my mother in law's birthday cake. She likes Michelob Ultra so I thought this idea was very appropriate. I couldn't capture all the details of the logo, but you get the idea. The cake was a red velvet cake with almond cream cheese icing. Very delicious :)

Week 3 of Wilton Course 4

This week in cake class we learned a few flowers made out of fondant and gum paste. These flowers will be used on the final cake for the course. Here are a few of the pictures from the class. Also, look for pictures of my mother in law's birthday cake later this week! It is going to be a red velvet cake with cream cheese icing. The recipe comes from the Cake Mix Doctor book 1. Enjoy the pictures and more to follow.

Week 2 of Wilton Course 4

So this month I am taking the Fondant/Gum Paste course. This is the last course I have to take in the Wilton series. Last week was covering a cake board, nothing super exciting so there are no photos. But this week, we covered a cake and did a bunch of new things with fondant a gum paste. We learned handkerchiefs, streamers, and how to drape. The cake is a random assortment of these skills. Enjoy!

Happy Birthday Pa-in-law!

Jake's dad is into hockey, that's clearly where the idea for this cake came from! The cake is a toasted coconut sour cream cake (from the Cake Mix Doctor's first book) and an almond butter cream. Yummy! The pictures are the many phases of the cake.

New Cake recipes

This week I have tried a few new recipes. One I found on www.cakecentral.com It is a key lime cake. I plan on using this recipe for cupcakes and decorating them like margaritas. I brought the cake into work to test the recipe on my coworkers. It received 2 thumbs up. New I plan on trying this coconut recipe. The cake is for my father-in-laws birthday cake. There will definitely be pictures to follow this post and details on the cake recipe! Finally, I have started my fourth and final Wilton cake course. And for this course I have to make 2 cakes, so this means new and exciting recipes, as well as beautiful cake pictures. Continue checking this blog to see what artwork I have created :)

Panda Cake

A friend asked me to make a cake for a going away party. Lauren (my friend) knew a girl traveling to China to study pandas and thus the theme for the cake.

GOOO DAWGS!!!

Probably one of the greatest cakes and football rivalries ever. Georgia Tech and UGA. This year the Dawgs took the Jackets down (30-24). The UGA cakes was red velvet with cream cheese icing. The Ga Tech cake was a white cake with a lemon filling and frosting!

Wedding showers

I have been asked by a few friends to do cakes for wedding showers. One was for a friend who had a shower close to Christmas, so I went for a winter wonderland theme with snowmen on the top. For the other friend, I used her wedding colors as the theme for the cake.

Happy Birthday!

These are a few of the birthday cakes I have made for a few people. One is based of Hannah Montana and another is Transformers inspired. Another was created for a guy who is a little older :) The ones with Kit Kats and pretzels are a quick and easy idea. Also a great crowd pleaser for any birthday.

Holiday fun part 2

More pictures...there are just so many goodies.

Holiday fun

Over the holidays I had a lot of fun experimenting with different ideas. I was able to make a few cakes, some cookies, cupcakes, and candy gift baskets. Halloween brought ghosts and ghouls. Thanksgiving had turkeys and Christmas inspired snowmen!

Wilton Course 3

In the 3rd Wilton course we got to mess around with fondant and learn how to make tiered cakes. So yes, I could probably make a wedding cake. Fondant is a lot like playing with play-doh. My first cake for the course was a carrot cake and therefore decorated in carrot colors. And the cake for the final class is inspired by UGA colors! GOOO DAWGS!

Wilton Course 2

In the second Wilton course we learned a ton of royal icing flowers and how to basketweave a cake. Which I must add is very tedious and painful on your arm! But because it was October I made a Halloween themed cake. I also took the royal icing technique of flooding and applied it to sugar cookies.

Cakes from course 1

These are the cakes from the first Wilton course. In this course we learned the basics. How to ice a cake, simple borders, and buttercream roses.
